Initially, it was founded and headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, and in the mid-2000s was the largest energy company in Canada.In the 2020 Forbes Global 2000, Ovintiv was ranked as the 1923rd -largest public company in the world. . It has also been included on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. Before asset sales in 2013, the company was the largest natural gas producer in Canada.
